Poor performance-Is it a reflection of high levels of corruption

03/05/2010

Medical graduates from India rank very high in numbers among the overseas doctors employed be it in USA,UK or Australia. Even Canada,Netherlands and Germany also have a huge number of Indian doctors who are currently employed at various levels.

UK,Canada and Australia are trying to bring a common premployment pathway which helps them in not only recruiting the overseas doctors but also in the cross recognition of overseas doctors especially from India.

As a part of screening process, which may be introduced in near future all the overseas doctors are required to have their qualifications verified through a process called as primary source verification by EICS/ECFMG which is based in USA.

EICS sends a verification request letter to the concerned medical colleges based in India requesting the particular institution to verify the validity of the qualifications produced by the respective candidates seeking employment overseas in any of the above mentioned countries as well as USA.

The EICS verification normally takes between two month to three months time period easily. Most of the time is consumed in the reply process from the concerned medical colleges in India. Some of these institutes may not respond at all to these verfication requests which places the candidates employment prospects at risk in the above mentioned countries.

In a recent survey conducted by Amplelife it was uncovered that corruption is the main reason for the lack of response to the EICS verification requests. The corrupted officials based in the adminstration departments in the respective colleges and hospitals are demanding money from the medical graduates and students in return for sending a response to the verification requests.

In cases where the candidate is unable to pay the demanded amount then the concerned officials are either delaying the reply for the verification requests or simply ignoring the verification request.

Below is the list of organisations that were poor performers in their timed response to EICS verification requests. Some of these institutes are well reputed for producing top class graduates and high ranking students.

It is very disappointing to see such poor performance from these good institutes. Please take a note of the lsit of the institutes.
